Calculate Wall Tiles
Wall tiles begin with the wall area: height times width, one wall at a time. From that you take off whatever won't be tiled – doors, windows, bigger cut-outs. Divide what's left by the tile area and add your waste. On the wall a 4–6 mm notch is usually plenty.

How to calculate wall tiles
- Calculate each wall area: height × width.
- Subtract door and window areas.
- Divide the total by the tile area, add 10% waste.
Formula: Wall tiles = ((wall area − cut-outs) ÷ tile area) × 1.10
Example: wall 2.5 × 4 m = 10 m², subtract a 1.8 m² door = 8.2 m².
Practical tips
- Full tiles visible at the top/front, cuts in corners and at the bottom.
- For patterns/borders, set out the rows first.
- Small wall tiles need more grout.
